Reading: Romans 8:31-39 .
"But in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us" Romans 8:37
In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is a battle that determined the fate Civil War in the United States. One of the crucial points of conflict was a rocky hill called Little Round Top, where Col. Joshua L. Chamberlain and the men of 20 〫. Maine Infantry Battalion resisted with all his might. If the Confederate troops had beaten the men, some historians believe that the Union army had been surrounded and likely would have lost the war. The "20 〫 of Maine" was the last line of defense.
Christ's followers are also involved in a crucial war. To fight "against the wiles of the devil" (Ephesians 6:11 ), we are called to clothe ourselves with the armor of God and stand firm in the fight ( vv. 10-18 .)
And like the soldiers of Gettysburg, we have a "last line of defense." However, in our case, this defense is more powerful than any human force. In Romans 8:31-39 , Paul says that our confidence, ultimately, is based on the undying love of Christ. Our protection is so complete that nothing "can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (v. 39 ).
When the enemy is overwhelming and all seems lost, remember that we have an unbeatable last line of defense: "We are more than conquerors through him that loved us" (v. 37 )
Reflection: God's plan always leads to victory.
